“Parent councils and other community groups have been left in limbo after learning the provincial government has “paused” annual grants they rely on for activities like math nights or cyberbullying talks.
Earlier this year, school parent councils spent hours meeting to create and submit proposals for activities under the “Parent Reaching Out,” or PRO, grants.
They had been waiting to hear from the government about the funds — up to $1,000 per school — only to now learn the money isn’t flowing, said NDP Education Critic Marit Stiles.
“School councils and others applied for this funding in good faith and have already registered hundreds of parents for events on issues ranging from supporting students in math to raising emotionally healthy kids,” said Stiles, the MPP for Davenport and a former Toronto public school board trustee.
“Now they’ll be left with nothing as this government continues its stealth cuts to education.””
